SCS Superintendent schedules another community meeting in late September

Following a Wednesday morning meeting with the Shelbyville community at Porter Coffee, Shelbyville Central Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Vance has announced another meeting on Sept. 30.

That meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the SCS Administration Office at 1121 E. State Road 44. Attendees should enter through Door A6.

At Wednesday’s meeting, Dr. Vance provided an update on SCS facilities and discussed the financial challenges facing the corporation. He also shared information about the reductions and cost-saving measures the corporation has made over the past two years.

The corporation, according to Dr. Vance (photo), has made more than $2 million in cuts and savings over the past two years. The goal has been to find ways to reduce expenses while continuing to provide quality educational opportunities for students.

One of the corporation’s priorities, according to Dr. Vance, has been to avoid cutting staff whenever possible while protecting classroom sizes and maintaining the integrity of the classroom.

The discussion also provided an opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the challenges and decisions facing Shelbyville Central Schools.

The school board has placed an operating referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot.
