The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved the annual five-year Crossing Safety Improvement program for fiscal year 2026-2031 to implement safety upgrades at highway-railroad crossings across the state.
The plan authorizes $376 million in funding for grade crossing improvements and highway-railroad grade separations at around 387 crossing locations including a project scheduled for 2026 in Lawrence County.
The project locally would involve the reconstruction of the grade separation on County Road 700E near the city of Bridgeport at a cost of $2,365,000. That crossing is owned by CSX Railroad. No schedule for the work has been released.
