Putnam County Hospital has once again been recognized among the nation's highest-performing hospitals, earning a Five-Star Overall Hospital Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the fourth consecutive year.
In the 2026 CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings, only 384 hospitals nationwide achieved the prestigious five-star designation. In Indiana, just 12 hospitals received the highest rating, placing Putnam County Hospital among an elite group recognized for delivering exceptional patient care and outcomes.
The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating provides consumers with a simple way to compare hospital performance. For the 2026 ratings, CMS evaluated hospitals using 52 quality measures across five categories:
Mortality (22%)
Safety of Care (22%)
Readmission (22%)
Patient Experience (22%)
Timely and Effective Care (12%)
CMS also enhanced this year's methodology by incorporating new quality measures, including Hybrid Hospital-Wide Mortality and Hybrid Hospital-Wide Readmission, further strengthening the assessment of hospital performance and patient outcomes.
"This recognition reflects the dedication, compassion, and expertise of every member of our healthcare team," said Dennis Weatherford, CEO of Putnam County Hospital. "Earning a Five-Star CMS rating for the fourth consecutive year demonstrates our unwavering commitment to providing safe, high-quality care for the patients and families we serve. We are honored to be recognized among the top hospitals in the nation."
Weatherford also expressed gratitude to the community that supports the hospital's mission.
"We sincerely thank our community for their continued trust and support," Weatherford said. "Because of that support, we are able to invest in exceptional healthcare services and provide outstanding care close to home. This achievement belongs not only to our team but to the entire community we are privileged to serve."
The CMS Five-Star Rating is one of the nation's most widely recognized measures of hospital quality and is designed to help patients make informed healthcare decisions. Putnam County Hospital's continued achievement underscores its commitment to excellence and its mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities it serves.
