Plymouth Tree & Flower Committee Continues to Plant Trees

As a designated Tree City USA™, the City of Plymouth knows the importance of trees. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, “Trees clean our air and water, provide habitat for wildlife, connect communities, and support our health and well-being.”

Tree Committee members Jodie Overmyer and Debbie Palmer recently spent a morning identifying locations around the city to plant new trees. As Overmyer explained, “At a residential site, I like to place the trees where they will best shade the home from afternoon sun.”

Trees are only planted on city property, in the strip between the street and the sidewalk. The Park Department is responsible for watering the trees but asks homeowners to help during droughts. The city understands not everyone wants a free tree, as it can be a small inconvenience when mowing. Homeowners can opt out of the program by calling the street department at 574-936-2017.

The Tree & Flower Committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month. Current committee members include: Mike Wolfington, Mike Hite, Steve Listenberger, Cameron Arnold, Jim Marquardt, Debbie Palmer, Luke Felde, Bob Yoder, and Jodie Overmyer.
