Officers with the Plymouth Police Department made three arrests on Monday, June 1st, involving two suspended drivers and one individual wanted on an out-of-county warrant.
The first arrest came when Officer Krynock stopped a vehicle driven by Carlos Barrios Velasquez, 29, of Indianapolis, for a traffic infraction at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Veterans Parkway. A check of Velasquez's license status revealed it was suspended with a prior suspension on record. He was lodged in the Marshall County Jail, given a court date of June 30th, and held on a $500 cash bond.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Patrolman Thornton initiated a traffic stop after observing a driver using a cell phone while driving. During the stop, the driver was identified as Samantha Rachelle Inzer, 32, of Rochester, whose license was found to be suspended with a prior. Inzer was taken into custody, transported to the Marshall County Jail, and charged with driving while suspended with a prior. She remained in custody until her cash bond was paid at 5:06 p.m.
In a third incident, Corporal Ben McIntyre was dispatched to the Marshall County Probation Department regarding a subject with an active warrant out of St. Joseph County. McIntyre took Juan Hernandez, 30, of Mishawaka, into custody and transported him to the Marshall County Jail, where he will await extradition to St. Joseph County.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
