A vehicle refused to stop for a Plymouth Police Officer and a pursuit was initiated on the city’s south side early Sunday morning, March 16th.
At approximately 2 a.m., Patrolman Lovely attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Third Street and Lake Avenue for a moving violation. The suspect vehicle led police on a pursuit throughout the southern residential area of Plymouth before it was stopped on Gilmore Street south of Pierce Street.
The driver was identified as 53-year-old Marvin Lopez-Espinal of Plymouth.
One of the two passengers was identified as 42-year-old Hector Castillo-Rodriguez of Plymouth. Castillo-Rodriguez was taken into custody for outstanding warrants for his arrest and while being taken into custody, he was found to have multiple fraudulent state-issued identification cards and social security cards.
Castillo-Rodriguez was lodged at the Marshall County Jail for his outstanding warrants and additional charges of fraud and possession of fraudulent state-issued identification.
Lopez-Espinal was taken into custody because of the further investigation. He was lodged in the Marshall County Jail on pending charges of felony resisting law enforcement, theft of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor operating while intoxicated endangering, OWI over .08, reckless driving, and operator never licensed with a prior charge.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
