Plymouth's fire and police departments are navigating personnel changes, with officials taking steps to fill vacancies at Monday evening's Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
Fire Chief Steve Holm presented a candidate for conditional employment to fill a position that has been vacant since the resignation of Steve Williams.
The department is offering the position to Taylor McVoy, who has already distinguished herself through the Plymouth High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program at the fire department. McVoy has earned both her Indiana State Firefighters Certification and EMT Basic Certification through the program.
"She has done very well," Chief Holm told the board, noting that McVoy completed the department's agility test on a snowy, icy parking lot in 15-degree temperatures. She also performed strongly in both her interview and the firefighter aptitude test.
McVoy is currently completing prerequisites for paramedic school and is seeking a full-time position with the department. Her conditional offer depends on acceptance into the state pension fund following required medical and psychological examinations.
The Board of Public Works unanimously approved the conditional employment offer.
Police Chief John Weir informed the board that he has opened applications for a police officer position in anticipation of an upcoming resignation.
A current officer notified Chief Weir last week that he will be relocating to Florida as soon as his home sells. The officer is scheduled to attend the Florida Police Academy in June and expects to sell his home within the next month or two.
Once the sale is complete, the officer will officially resign from the Plymouth Police Department.
