JLM Rentals and Low Bob’s at 1212 West Jefferson Street in Plymouth asked the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals for a variance of development standards to add two signs to their existing building. They already have two individual sign cabinets promoting the current business on the property. The new signs would promote Hunt Brothers Pizzas, which are now available in the business. The city ordinance only permits three signs.
Plymouth Plan Director, Ty Adley, said the proposed signs are 3 feet by 4 feet and would be on both sides of the existing signs in the general commercial zoning district.
While the staff recommended denial of the request because the practical difficulty is self-imposed, the members of the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals have the final say.
A representative from the sign company, Lori Overmyer, attended the meeting for the applicant and said their preferred location is high up on the existing building sign because electricity is already available. She also commented that the illuminated sign was sent by Hunt Brothers to promote the availability of their pizzas in the building.
There were no comments during the public hearing, and the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals voted 4 to 1 to approve as requested by the applicant. Jack Garner voted no, and Art Jacobs, Brandon Richie, Mark Gidley, and Paul Wendel voted in favor.
