October 2024 Jail & Sheriff's Department Report

Drivers operating without a license and operating while intoxicated are the top two offenses for being booked into the Marshall County Jail during October 2024.  36 individuals were lodged in the jail last month for a charge of operator never licensed and 31 were arrested for operating while intoxicated. Failure to appear was third on the list of offences with 19 arrests while possession of marijuana was fourth.  Driving while suspended rounds out the top five reasons with 16 arrests.

Sixth on the list was possession of paraphernalia with 14, possession of methamphetamine with 11 arrests, domestic battery had 6 arrests, followed by resisting law enforcement with 5 and theft with 5 arrests.   

There were 159 arrests in October with Argos Police making one, Bourbon Police having 5, Bremen Police making 11, Culver Police making 6 and LaPaz Police having 1 arrest.  Indiana State Police officers arrested 6 in October while Community Corrections only had 2 arrests.  Officers with the Plymouth Police Department made 50 arrests last month and officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department had 77 arrests. 

The average daily population in the Marshall County Jail in October was 135.  Six months earlier, in April it was also 135 and one year ago the daily population in the jail was 144. 

Count day in the jail was November 8^th.  The population was 119, with 1 serving time with a misdemeanor charge, 31 inmates serving felony time and 1 serving time on a civil charge.   75 inmates in the jail were pre-trial, and 11 inmates awaiting arraignment.  There were 95 males and 24 females in the jail.

Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated 105 accidents, 83 were property damage, 20 personal injury and 2 fatalities.  Officers wrote 110 case reports, issued 121 citations and warnings, and conducted 25 security checks.

There are 1,275 active warrants at the jail.

The Central Dispatch Center answered 4,447 calls in October, 1,278 were 911 calls and 98.12% of those calls were answered in 10 seconds or less.  There were also 1,263 service calls for the Sheriff’s Department.
