A free lunch, a strawberry festival, the Taste of Shelby County annual event and a kickoff parade highlight a busy two days of activity in Shelbyville.
At 11 a.m. Friday, the annual Government Day Free Lunch returns to downtown Shelbyville. Hot dogs and chips will be served on East Washington St. until supplies run out.
After lunch, enjoy strawberry shortcake at the Shelby Senior Services annual Strawberry Festival which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Public Square. For those not available to travel downtown, a second strawberry festival will take place at Major Health Partners Medical Facility.
Strawberry Shortcake and ice cream will be served for $8.
Friday night is the Taste of Shelby County which will bring 15 vendors into downtown Shelbyville.
The event also will feature the Southern Indiana Taiko drums, Barnyard Party Pals, Penny Lane Photo Bus and the Third Annual Darrin Glessner Car/Truck/Bike Show, as well as other entertainment opportunities.

With the Shelby County Fair beginning Monday, there will be a Kick-Off Parade Saturday at 2 p.m.
The parade will leave the grandstand infield on the Shelby County Fairgrounds and head west toward Kennedy Park. From there, the parade will hit Alice Street and Morris Avenue and go to Frank Street where it will return to the main entrance of the fairgrounds.
The parade will then head toward the horse barns and return to the grandstand's infield.
