Master Trooper Brian Hoffman retires from the Indiana State Police

Marshall County- Master Trooper Brian Hoffman is set to hang up the uniform one last time as he retires from the Indiana State Police after serving the citizens of Indiana for more than 26 years.

Hoffman is a native of Monroeville, IN and a graduate of Heritage High School.  Following high school he attended Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) earning an associate’s degree. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in 2020.

Hoffman attended the 58th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy that graduated in December 1999.  Following graduation he was assigned to the Toll Road District. While working at the Toll Road District he honed his skills in drug interdiction and was involved in multiple large drug seizures. Hoffman transferred to the Bremen District in 2004.

During his tenure with the Indiana State Police Hoffman served on the Tactical Intervention Platoon (TIP) and been a field training officer (FTO).  He was assigned to an ATF Task Force from 2015-2017 where he took part in 30 federal gun and drug investigations.  He also spent time assigned to the ISP Drug Enforcement Section from 2008-2017 working on many marijuana investigations.  Hoffman has logged over 2,500 flight hours searching for outdoor marijuana growing operations all over northern Indiana.  Throughout his career he has investigated over 1,000 outdoor marijuana cultivation investigations and 400 indoor marijuana cultivation investigations.

His work for removing impaired drivers from Indiana’s roadways has been recognized by the Elkhart County Drug Free Partnership for being the top ISP OWI officer in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.  He was also the Indiana State Police Bremen Post Trooper of the District in 2007 and 2018.  This award is presented to a trooper that personifies integrity, a steadfast work ethic, and professionalism.

Throughout his career he has logged an impressive 1,100,000 safe driving miles.

Hoffman lives in Elkhart County.
