A domestic dispute Wednesday evening in Cass County resulted in the arrest of Justin G.A. Vorhees, 34, of Macy, on multiple domestic violence charges.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Vorhees battered a woman inside a vehicle while armed with a deadly weapon, according to the Indiana State Police. Further investigation revealed that a gun discharged during the incident and Vorhees allegedly prevented the woman from exiting the vehicle.
Police say the woman was eventually able to jump out of the vehicle and ran to a nearby home to call for help. She was subsequently treated at a local hospital and released.
Vorhees was later located and taken into custody without incident. He was booked at the Cass County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
• Criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony;
• Domestic battery with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony;
• Domestic battery in the presence of a minor, a Level 5 felony;
• Unlawful carrying of a handgun with a prior conviction, a Level 5 felony;
• Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony.
Indiana State Police were assisted by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Peru Police Department, Cass County EMS and the Miami County Department of Child Services.
