Loftus arrested for public intoxication after fleeing City Officers following domestic disturbance call

A Plymouth man was arrested Monday evening after officers responding to a 911 hang-up and domestic disturbance call found him hiding behind a building — and determined he was heavily intoxicated.

At 8:13 p.m. on July 13th, Plymouth Police officers were dispatched to the area of LaPorte and Fifth Streets after Marshall County Central Dispatch received a 911 hang-up call and could hear people talking in the background. While officers were en route, dispatch received a second call reporting a domestic disturbance and possible fight in a yard in the same area.

When Officer Fisher arrived on scene, he observed a shirtless, barefoot male walking away from the area. When the officer turned around, the man fled on foot into the parking lot of CC Hair at 708 Lake Avenue. The officer pulled into the lot but initially couldn't locate him — until the man was discovered hiding alongside the building.

When asked what was going on, the man, identified as Michael Loftus, 43, of Freeman Drive in Plymouth, said he had gotten into an argument with his wife but then told officers to "figure it out on their own" and refused to cooperate further.

Officer Fisher noted that Loftus was slurring his words and had a strong odor of alcohol on his person. Loftus was placed under arrest for public intoxication and submitted to a portable breath test, registering a .261 BAC — more than three times the legal driving limit. He was booked into the Marshall County Jail.
