Lawrenceville Mayor David Courtney says that the city will meet with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials next week.
He made the announcement to the City Council Thursday evening during his monthly report. He along with a delegation of other city representatives will travel to the state capital of Springfield Tuesday, April 14 for the face-to-face session at their main office.
The meeting is in response to the EPA informing the city that they were looking at taking punitive action due to violations committed in regard to the city sewer plant. The city did institute some improvements but were informed that they were not enough.
Courtney says that he hopes the meeting will clarify exactly what measures need to be taken in order to satisfy EPA officials and bring the facility into compliance with existing regulations.
