As the fall respiratory virus season continues, both the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Lawrence County Health Department (LCHD) are asking local and area residents to get vaccinated.
The IDPH says that getting vaccinated for COVID-19, influenza, and RSV activity is an important step in avoiding sickness from these diseases. Flu vaccinations are recommended for all people ages 6 months and older. People can also contact their primary physician for additional guidance.
Lawrence County residents should also check their measles vaccination status as cases continue to rise across the state. There have been 23 confirmed cases of the measles across Illinois so far in 2026; however, the risk to Illinoisans remains very low. If a person is exposed to the measles, they need to contact their health care provider immediately.
People can also contact their local health department for information on where vaccines are available.
