At the request of the Clinton County Sheriff, the Indiana State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Clinton County.
On November 18, 2025, around 8:45 p.m., a Clinton County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on State Road 29, just south of County Road 400 North. The Kirklin Town Marshal’s Office assisted the deputy during the stop. During the course of the traffic stop, all adult occupants were outside of the vehicle when a passenger fired a handgun toward the officers, striking two Kirklin Town Marshals. Officers on scene returned fire with their duty-issued handguns and struck the suspect at least one time.
The suspect fled on foot into a nearby field, where he was located and taken into custody. Medical aid was immediately provided, and a handgun was recovered at the scene.
The suspect and one of the officers were transported to an Indianapolis area hospital. The officer is in stable condition.
The second officer was struck by gunfire, but their bullet-resistant vest prevented injury.
There were four adult occupants and one child involved in the vehicle. In addition to the suspect, one adult was struck by gunfire and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other adult occupants and the child were uninjured.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation by detectives from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post. As detectives continue to gather additional information, this information is preliminary and subject to change.
At the conclusion of the investigation, this case will be turned over to the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
