Bremen District- This past Friday, May 1, 2026, troopers at the Indiana State Police Bremen Post took part in a district-wide traffic detail to kick off the month of May called Operation Blue Thunder. May typically is the beginning of the busy travel season with the Memorial Day holiday kicking off the unofficial start of summer. Indiana sees the heavy traffic season kick off even earlier with race fans from around the world traveling to see the Indianapolis 500 and all the festivities leading up to the race in the preceding weeks.
The focus of Operation Blue Thunder was to give extra attention to the US31 and US30 corridors that run through the heart of the Bremen District. Both roadways are heavily traveled, and the State Police often receive complaints of speeding and aggressive driving on these highways and often respond to serious and sometimes fatal crashes on these highways.
Lt. Tony Slocum, District Commander of the ISP Bremen Post said, “As the summer travel season approaches, the Indiana State Police want to remind motorists that safe roadways are everyone’s responsibility, so please buckle up, drive sober, and avoid any distracting behaviors. Let’s have a safe summer travel season on Indiana’s roadways for 2026.”
Operation Blue Thunder resulted in:
- 68 tickets
- 174 warnings
- 7 misdemeanor arrests
The ISP Bremen District will continue to have proactive, high-visibility patrols throughout the busy summer travel season. The goal is to reduce the number of crashes, encourage drivers to follow the rules of the road and to drive sober.
