Howard County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of CR 750 West and CR 00 North/South Thursday afternoon on a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle.
One person was reported to be unconscious and unresponsive.
A preliminary investigation by deputies and the Howard County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team indicates that a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 pulling a trailer, driven by Alexandria Doubet of Russiaville, 29, was traveling southbound on CR 750 West through the intersection when a Zuma moped, driven by 13-year-old Evan Lee Shaffer of Macon, Georgia, collided with the Dodge Ram. As a result of the collision, Shaffer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A member of the Howard County Sheriff's Office Drone Unit assisted by obtaining aerial photographs and video to aid in the investigation.
Doubet was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital Kokomo, where she consented to a blood draw. An autopsy for Shaffer was scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2026, and was conducted by a forensic pathologist at the Howard County Coroner's Office. The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries and manner of death was accidental. Toxicology results are pending.
This accident remains under investigation by Sgt. Justin Markley (#34-72), Cpl. Mark Brackett (#34-88), and the Howard County Coroner's Office.
