The Fulton County community has taken an important first step toward commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.
The organizational meeting of the Fulton Commission for the America 250 Celebration was held on Thursday, December 4, at the Mellow Mug in Rochester. The gathering brought together local leaders, community members, and representatives from across Fulton County who share a commitment to honoring the nation’s semiquincentennial. The Commission will guide planning efforts for a year-long celebration in 2026, highlighting the
county’s history, cultural contributions, and civic spirit.
During the meeting, attendees discussed the Commission’s purpose, outlined preliminary goals,
and explored opportunities for community involvement and partnership.
Early focus areas include educational programming, historical mural, taking part in Statewide events like “Two Light for Tomorrow”, and projects that strengthen pride in Fulton County’s role within the broader American story.
“The America 250 milestone gives us a meaningful moment to reflect, celebrate, and unify,” said organizers. “We look forward to building a celebration that honors our past while inspiring future generations.”
The next meeting of the committee is on Wednesday, January 21, at 6 pm at the Fulton County Public Library. At this meeting, we will hear updates from the team members, prepare event sheets for our local events to be added to the State website, and continue to plan great events. All are welcome to attend.
