Culver Historical Society to present "Bicentennial Culver" this Saturday at Culver Public Library

The Culver Historical Society continues its summer series of historical programs this Saturday, June 27th, with a free presentation titled "Bicentennial Culver" — a look back at patriotic celebrations throughout Culver's history, with special focus on how the local community marked America's bicentennial in 1976. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Culver Public Library.

The program will be presented by Jeff Kenney, Museum and Archives Manager at Culver Academies and a member of the Society's board of directors, alongside Society President the Very Rev. Dr. John Houghton. Using visuals and narrative, the pair will take attendees on a journey through Culver's rich tradition of patriotic celebration — just in time for the nation's 250th birthday this year.

Saturday's presentation is one of several events the Culver Historical Society has planned throughout the summer, all centered on the theme of America's seminal anniversaries. The full lineup includes:

• "The Presidents of the United States of America" — A tour of original documents signed by each of the country's 47 presidents while in office, accompanied by a live presentation by Culver's John Zeglis. The event takes place Saturday, July 18th at 2 p.m. on the ground floor of the Huffington Library on the Culver Academies campus. Free and open to the public.
• Annual Fundraiser Concert — Vocalist and composer Olivia van Goor will perform a program of popular favorites at the Culver Academies Legion Memorial Building on Saturday, August 8th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by contacting historyofculver@gmail.com. This is the only ticketed event in the series.
• "True Daughters: An Independence Day Reminiscence" — An original one-act play featuring three area pioneer women — true Daughters of the American Revolution — discussing their fathers' roles in the War of Independence. The performance will be followed by the Society's annual meeting. Saturday, August 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the Culver Community High School Auditorium. Free and open to the public.
• Stories and Stones — The Society's beloved annual event returns to the Culver Masonic Cemetery on Saturday, September 19th at 1 p.m., celebrating the lives of several local residents laid to rest there. Free and open to the public.
