A complete rehabilitation of Runway 5/23 at the Kokomo Municipal Airport is scheduled to begin this summer, made possible by significant funding support from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
This project, originally planned to be completed in phases over several years, can now be finished entirely during the current construction season due to the FAA's commitment. The total cost of the project is $8,179,676.67.
The rehabilitation will be conducted in three phases to minimize the impact on airport operations and reduce the time both runways are closed. Runway 5/23 is scheduled to close beginning August 4 and will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to last approximately 72 days.
Runway 14/32 will also experience temporary closures to accommodate work in the intersection area. It will be closed from approximately August 20 through September 4, with additional short-term closures anticipated in late September for runway grooving and in October for final painting.
