A change order for the Gibson LaPorte Streets Community Crossing project that was recently completed was approved during Monday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
City Engineer, Dan Sellers told the board there was about 250 feet of Gibson Street, near Roy Street, that had substandard soils so the contractor had to do additional excavating of the soils. They also had to haul in additional stone to create a solid base and applied two layers of asphalt on that section or street.
The change order was for an additional $72,996.85. Because this project used the city’s Community Crossing Matching Grant funds, the additional is totally the responsibility of the city with no additional grant funds.
