A caucus has been scheduled to fill the vacancy of Mayor in the City of Clinton following the death of Mayor Jack Gilfoy earlier this month.
Gilfoy, who was the longest serving Mayor in Clinton history, had served Clinton since 2011 and made history in 2023 when he secured a fourth term as mayor. In 2023, he defeated Republican challenger and Clinton City Councilman Bart Mooney by almost 200 votes.
Gilfoy had been instrumental in leading Clinton on a $10 million stormwater project near the town's sewer plant earlier this year.
The caucus will be held at the Clinton Library at 11 a.m. on June 14. Four Democrat Precinct Committee members will be vote on a new Mayor at the meeting, with Democratic Party Chair Joan M. Kanizer set to break any tie.
Anyone interested in being a part of the caucus must notify Kanizer by 11 a.m. on June 11 by emailing kanizer17@aol.com.
