BrunchBird ready to serve up food, drinks for customers

A familiar face and a familiar place are once again ready to serve up food and drink options to customers in Greencastle and Putnam County. 

General Manager Rick Trejo has reopened the doors of the former Taphouse Burgers with a revamped restaurant called BrunchBird, 24 S. Indiana St., Greencastle. 

After closing the doors of Taphouse last year, Trejo worked on a fresh concept that he had never tried as a restaurant group. 

"We were very confident we could provide great service, food and hospitality. We wanted to provide the square with another option for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Going back to full service was also a huge thing for us," Trejo explained to The Putnam County Post. 

In addition, to a new concept, Trejo said there were changes made aesthetically to the interior to the point where customers will be able to get a new feel when they walk in. 

"It took three and a half months for us to finalize menu items. There was a lot of eating and feedback," Trejo said, laughing. "We had a whole leadership team that gave input, and 95 percent of the leadership team is from Greencastle, so we knew they would know what the community would want."

As for having owned a restaurant previously, Trejo admitted that definitely helped when it came to BrunchBird. 

"It helps so much. We can take some of the mistakes that we made with Taphouse and learn from them. Our guests from Bridges have been so supportive, and we believe if guests come into BrunchBird, they will leave wanting to come back," he said. 

The menu consists of breakfast and brunch staples like omelettes, pancakes, waffles, French toast, chicken and waffles, avocado toast and salads, as well as burgers, grilled and fried chicken sandwiches, mimosas, mimosa flights and rotating cocktails. 

"We wanted to make sure we focused on quality and taste of ingredients, while also making sure the prices were as fair as possible so that the whole community would be able to visit us. When people come in, they can look forward to exceptional service and hospitality, great food and consistency. We want to be a place where our guests feel welcomed, comfortable and happy as soon as they walk in. We want to thank the community for all the support we have received thus far. We are working hard to keep elevating our service and menu items," Trejo said. 

BrunchBird is open Thursday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
