High school football season opens up in Illinois Friday and the first Lawrence County team to hit the gridiron will be the Red Hill Salukis. The Salukis of veteran head coach Billy Gray are coming off a 5-4 regular season in 2023 and a first round Class 1A playoff loss. They will head north to Casey to meet the Casey-Westfield Warriors at Sinclair-Vidoni Field. Kickoff time is scheduled at 7 p.m. CT. The game can be heard on Giant-FM WAKO 99.3 beginning with the pregame at 6:45 p.m. and the play-by-play at 7 p.m. Elsewhere in opening games Friday, Mt Carmel is at Gibson Southern, Newton at Shelbyville, Olney (Richland Co) at Taylorville, Paris at Cayuga and Robinson at Effingham. The Lawrenceville Indians open Saturday at home with Bishop McNamara and Marshall will host Trenton Wesclin.
