Plymouth didn't have to look far to find a new high school football coach.
Rochester's Ron Shaffer was approved by a vote of the school board Tuesday. He replaces Adam Handley who had been asked to step down from the position. When he did not, his contract was not renewed despite a showing of community support at a meeting on December 2.
Shaffer led the Zebras program to five consecutive winning seasons in his time as head coach. Overall, he was 39-13 in that span.
Shaffer told GIANT fm Sports that the position was a tremendous opportunity. He noted Plymouth's rich history in football and the Northern Lakes Conference as well as great administrative support, kids and strong community. He says he can't wait to get started.
Shaffer will become the Dean of Students at Plymouth High School.
