Shelbyville baseball opened the 2026 season with a resounding 23-0 win at Speedway Friday.
Reece Prickett (photo) had three hits and drove in four runs. Aiden Smith had two hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in three.
Brady Bryant and Henry Rife each had two hits. Adair Zermeno scored four runs.
Luke Coomes, Gavin Reed and Cooper Thoman combined to limit the Sparkplugs to two hits and two walks while striking out 12. Coomes earned the win with the first two scoreless innings. He struck out six of the seven batters he faced.
Logan Moore took the loss for Speedway. He allowed eight hits and nine runs in two innings on the mound.
Shelbyville is at New Palestine Tuesday.

Greenwood 13, Triton Central 6
At Triton Central Saturday, Eli Mason had a double and a home run and drove in five runs to lead the Woodmen (2-0) past the Tigers (0-1).
Parker Jarboe earned the win on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four.
Brayden Hoover took the loss for Triton Central. He surrendered three hits, three walks and five runs (only two were earned).
Triton Central hosts Tri-West Tuesday for its first Hoosier Legends Conference game.
Jac-Cen-Del 4, Morristown 0
At Morristown Friday, a trio of Jac-Cen-Del pitchers limited the Yellow Jackets to four hits and the Eagles scored three times in the sixth inning to seal the win.
Neil Sullivan pitched four innings and struck out nine. Blake Wagner and Brody Huff pitched the final three innings for the Eagles’ first win of the season.
Jake Miesse pitched five innings for Morristown (0-2), allowed one unearned run and struck out five.
Morristown is at Tri Monday.
Boys golf
Edinburgh Invitational
Southwestern finished 13th in the field in its season-opening event.
Jay Utley led the Spartans with an 88. Eli Smith was four strokes back at 92.
Completing the Southwestern scorecard were Colton Baker (100), Landon Fix (102) and Josh Karr (108).
Softball
Morristown 2, Herron 0
At Herron Friday, Leigh Ann Arnold had four hits and drove in four runs while Mykynzy Smith added three hits and scored four runs to push the Yellow Jackets to 2-0.
Sawyer Rogers earned the win in the circle with a five-inning shutout performance with 11 strikeouts.
Girls tennis
Shelbyville 3, Indian Creek 2
At Indian Creek Friday, the Golden Bears won all three singles matches in straight sets.
At No. 1 singles, Ava Muckerheide prevailed, 6-3, 6-0. Sophia Asher won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Corinne Aldridge completed the sweep with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
Indian Creek won both doubles matches.
Shelbyville hosts Edinburgh Monday.
Boys volleyball
North Putnam def. Shelbyville, 25-12, 25-22, 25-23
At North Putnam Friday, Jack Bassett led the Golden Bears with five kills, three service aces, three blocks and nine digs.
Harlyn Feathers finished with seven assists.
Madison def. Shelbyville, 25-8, 25-15, 25-11
At Shelbyville Saturday, Jay Kawakami topped Shelbyville (0-10) with four kills. He also had two aces.
Bassett had two kills, three aces and five digs.
The Golden Bears host Beech Grove Tuesday.
