Joao Rivera scored both of Shelbyville’s goal to secure a season-opening 2-1 win Tuesday over Franklin.
Rivera scored off a free kick in the first half after Aden Phares drew a foul just outside the box. His second goal came in the second half after he beat multiple defenders in the corner.
Corbin Martin was credited with seven saves in goal.

Shelbyville 206, Beech Grove 228
At Sarah Shank Golf Course, Dori Hines posted a career-best round of 39 to earn the medalist honor but it was not enough for the Hornets to defeat Shelbyville.
Julie Garrison led the Golden Bears with a 44. Completing the scorecard were Hana Stenger (51), Sophia Bragg (53) and Harper Adams (58).
Boys soccer
Shawe Memorial 6, Southwestern 1
At Southwestern, Mauro Felix scored three goals and Hugo Rodriguez scored twice to lead the Hilltoppers to their first win of the season.
Jonathan Lopez Quevedo scored Shawe Memorial’s other goal. Joseph Hart and Ayden Dempler each had two assists.
Jay Utley scored the first goal of the contest for Southwestern off an assist from Jayden McGuire.
Whiteland 9, Triton Central 0
At Triton Central, the Warriors scored five first-half goals and cruised to the win over the Tigers (0-1-1).
Joseph Ngun Lian Thang and Yeriel Gonzalez each scored two goals for Whiteland (1-0-1). Five other Warriors scored in the victory.
Corbin Carver was credited with two saves in goal for Whiteland.
Boys tennis
Triton Central 5, Decatur Central 0
The Tigers dominated the singles matches to secure their season-opening win.
At No. 1 singles, Brayden Hoover defeated R.J. Ison, 6-0, 6-1. Bradyn Robinson produced a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jayden Mart at No. 2 singles. Drayton Kermode was dominant in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Maverick Southerland.
At No. 1 doubles, Graham Gast and Colton Ayres bested Caleb Throop and Tylor Collins, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Owen Rice and Cash Eck topped Cash Hollingsworth and Jackson Imel, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Waldron 5, Brown County 0
At Brown County, the visiting Mohawks lost just three games total against its new MHC foe.
Charlie Fischer, Lincoln Fischer and Noah Leap swept the singles matches for Waldron (1-1).
At No. 1 doubles, Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer blanked Nolan McFall and Nicklaus Arndt, 6-0, 6-0.
Owen Hartman and Kevin Crouch matched that with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.
Edinburgh 4, Morristown 1
At Morristown, the Yellow Jackets’ only win came from the No. 1 doubles pairing of Braxton Lenning and Ruston Kleine.
Hauser 5, Southwestern 0
At Southwestern, the Jets swept all five Mid-Hoosier Conference (MHC) matches to secure the win.
Volleyball
Shelbyville def. Monrovia, 25-23, 28-26, 25-20
At Shelbyville, Jordyn Noe had 10 kills and two blocks to lead the Golden Bears to a season-opening win and its first Hoosier Legends Conference (HLC) victory.
Lyla Wilson finished with eight kills and two service aces.
Taylor Abel had a team-high eight digs. Setter Addy Marshall collected 22 assists.
Triton Central def. Indian Creek, 25-19, 25-21, 25-12
At Triton Central, Kate Collier and Lucy May each had 11 kills to lead the host Tigers to their first HLC win of the season.
Setter Anna Kemper had 24 assists to improve Triton Central to 2-0. Alaina Darlage finished with 23 digs and five aces.
