Prep Report: Class 3A, No. 2 Yorktown secures HHC win at Shelbyville

DC Sports Photography photos: Shelbyville softball raised nearly $1,000 Saturday during its annual Pink Out game against Yorktown.

Shelbyville softball did not have success on the field Saturday afternoon but was very successful off the field during its annual Pink Out game.

Class 3A, No. 2 Yorktown scored seven runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 9-2 victory to improve to 12-0 this season.

Starting pitcher Olivia Jones allowed just two hits and struck out seven in three innings of work. Charlotte Childers and Hadlee Barnard allowed six hits and one run over the final four innings to seal the Hoosier Heritage Conference victory.

Olivia Jaromin had three hits and three RBIs. Jones blasted a solo home run in the fourth inning.

 

 

Alexis Rogers (photo) had four hits for Shelbyville (8-7, 2-2 HHC).

Gracie Crafton took the loss, dropping to 3-6 this season with a complete-game performance. The junior struck out five.

Yorktown won the junior varsity game, 10-3.

After the game, Shelbyville announced it raised $993 that will be donated to the local cancer society.

Shelbyville is at Greensburg (9-2) Tuesday.

Baseball

Brownstown Central 7, Shelbyville 2

At Barnett Field Saturday, Drake Goodpaster scattered six hits and two walks in a complete game performance against the Class 3A, No. 10 Golden Bears (7-2).

Goodpaster also had two hits, including a double and drove in three runs for the Class 2A, No. 3 Braves (11-0).

Cooper Thoman took the loss for Shelbyville. He allowed two hits and six runs (three earned) over four innings. Luke Coomes pitched the final three innings and allowed three hits and one run.

Brady Bryant had three hits for the Golden Bears.

Shelbyville hosts Franklin Central (5-8) Monday.

Girls tennis

Yellow Jacket Invitational

Morristown won the invitational, defeating Southwestern and Knightstown.

Addie Osborne and Remi Spicklemire won the No. 2 singles and No. 3 singles brackets, respectively. Emma Waggoner and Emmy Bowyer won the No. 1 doubles bracket.

Southwestern’s Kelsey Stringer won the No. 1 singles bracket. Claire Utley and Maci Murray were the No. 2 doubles bracket champions.

Track and Field

Dennis McNulty Invitational

At Warren Central Friday, Shelbyville competed against some of the top-ranked teams in central Indiana.

Ethan Griffin produced Shelbyville’s best finish in the boys meet. The sophomore placed sixth in the discus with a best throw of 131 feet. Dalton Helton finished seventh at 130-0.

Noah Jones placed seventh in the pole vault after clearing 10 feet. Shane Owens finished eighth in the high jump (5-6).

Shelbyville’s 1,600 relay team of Eli Davis, Owens, Alex Wells and Kamden Turner finished sixth (3:43.12).

In the girls meet, Sonora O’Connor and Jordyn Noe each produced a top-four finish.

O’Connor finished third in the 300 hurdles in 46.94. Noe was fourth in the jump (4-10). Noe also placed fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.47).

Macey Robbins finished sixth in the 800 (2:26.05).

Shelbyville finished fifth in the 1,600 relay (4:13.34) with Noe, Alyna Castanon, Robbins and O’Connor.

Boys volleyball

Indianapolis Lutheran def. Shelbyville, 25-7, 25-9

Jack Bassett and Asher Tong combined for 13 digs in the Shelbyville loss.

Tri-West def. Shelbyville, 25-10, 25-7

Gabe Miller led Tri-West with six kills. John Burry had four service aces.

Shelbyville dropped to 1-20.

The Golden Bears host New Palestine (12-4) Monday.
