Peru Community Schools names new athletic director

At their June 16 public board meeting, the Peru Community School’s board of trustees approved Adam Yates as their new Junior Senior High School Athletic Director.

Yates hails from southern Indiana where he has been the AD at Bedford North Lawrence High School. From 2008 to 2021, Mr. Yates was a PE teacher and varsity baseball coach at Parish Episcopal School in Dallas, TX. More recently, he has been an Assistant AD and Head AD at Bedford North Lawrence High School.

Yates earned his BS in Physical Education, Health, and Safety from Southern Nazarene University (‘07) in Bethany, OK. He then went on to earn a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Lamar University (’14) in Beaumont, TX.

Yates has managed many different IHSAA sports as an AD at Bedford North Lawrence, but his background is steeped in baseball. From 2006-2007, he played semi-pro ball in the Frontier League (MO), the Golden League (CA), and the Continental League (TX). He then went on to be the head coach for the McKinney Marshals Baseball Organization (McKinney, TX). Yates took over as the head baseball coach at Parish Episcopal High School in Dallas, TX in 2008 where he coached for 10 seasons. He led the program to a regional championship and a state final four appearance (2017). He is proud to share that he had two all-state nominees, and six players sign college scholarships (two at the NCAA Division I level).

When asked what his focus will be in his new role as Athletic Director at Peru Junior Senior High School, Yates shares, “My focus will be on building relationships with the student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and the community and working to build upon the positive culture that is already in place. My family and I are excited to be a part of the Peru community!”

Yates’ wife, Kristi, is a registered nurse. They have two sons, Cole (10th Grade), and Brady (6th Grade).
