The brackets are set for a pair of historic Shelby County Basketball Tournaments.
Waldron High School is the host site for the 2026 girls and boys county tournaments. This year’s edition is the 50th for the girls and 100th for the boys.
“Nothing like being the brand new (athletic director) at Waldron and getting to host the 100th year of the Shelby County Boys Tournament and the 50th year for the girls. It’s an honor for Waldron,” said Waldron athletic director Tommy Coy. “It’s exciting and it’s different. We have one of the longest county tournaments too, and it’s awesome. We are looking forward to it.”
The girls tournament semifinal games are Jan. 8. The boys tournament semifinals follow on Jan. 9.
Champions of both tournaments will be crowned on Jan. 10.
The athletic directors and basketball coaches at Morristown, Southwestern, Triton Central and Waldron met Monday morning in Shelbyville to go over the logistics of the tournament and set the semifinal brackets.
In the opening game on Jan. 8 in the girls tournament, Morristown (3-5) will take on Waldron (3-4). Those two teams are slated to meet Friday at Waldron in a Mid-Hoosier Conference contest.
The second semifinal pits Triton Central (5-2) against Southwestern (2-7). The Tigers and Spartans will meet in a regular-season contest Saturday in Fairland.

The 100th Shelby County Boys Basketball Tournament begins Jan. 9 with Waldron (2-1) getting a rematch with Triton Central (3-1). The Tigers defeated the Mohawks, 63-27, Friday night in Fairland.
The second semifinal has Southwestern (0-3) battling Morristown (1-2). It will be the first meeting of the season for the Mid-Hoosier Conference rivals. Their regular season meeting is in mid-February.
