​Mary Fisher, 76, of Rochester

​Mary Fisher, 76, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 11:59 AM on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincents Hospital of Indianapolis.

On September 7, 1949, Mary Martha Stoudt was born in Rochester to Foster Durbin and Mable Harriet Stoudt. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister, Jane and a brother, Bill. Proudly she graduated with the Class of 1968 from Star City High School.  Continuing her education, she graduated from the School of Cosmetology of Kokomo in 1970.

December 27, 1969, Mary and James “Jim” Everett Fisher were married in the Kewanna United Methodist Church. They shared 50 years of life’s adventures.  From their union came a daughter, Kathy and a son Matt. They were blessed with two more generations being added to the family tree with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In the early years she was the owner of Mary’s Beauty Shop, cutting and stylizing hair giving her customers their desired look, for 16 years.  She then worked as a secretary at the Peterson- Wagoner Law Firm, retiring in 2006.   A woman of strong faith, Mary was a member of the Faith Outreach Center and involved in the ladies Bible studies.  She loved Jesus and lived her life honoring him.

Traveling around northern Indiana, Mary and Jim enjoyed antiquing discovering many treasures.  They also loved traveling to Texas and California, their favorite destinations, and taking repeat trips to both.  They made many memories and experienced the beauty of both states.

With an appreciation for nature, Mary fed and observed her backyard feathered friends.  Many times, her treasured feline Kiki, the special blend Siamese could be found seated by Mary in their favorite chair.  An adventurer, Mary enjoyed an Alaskan cruise with her bestie Susan Lomeli. 

As the matriarch of the Fisher family, Grandma Mary enjoyed creating meals for her family to enjoy.  Her specialties, always in demand, were fried chicken and biscuits and gravy.  She was the grands #1 cheerleader always seated in the stands cheering wildly at their sporting events.  She was always counted on to be at school concerts and academic competitions, following all their activities.

Left to cherish Mary's memory are daughter, Kathy Watson and husband Jon of Rochester; son, Matt Fisher and wife Jamie of Goshen;  6 grandchildren: Kallie Watson, Lilly Watson and fiancee' Kelton Lett and Caleb Watson and wife Bridget, Eva Fisher, Jaden Fisher and Greyson Fisher; 3 great-grandchildren: Nash Watson, Maddy Watson and Bella Watson; sister, Jane Arend and husband Mike of Wheatfield; brother, Bill Stoudt and wife Martha of Pendleton; brother-in-law, John A. Fisher  of Henderson, NV; 2 sisters-in-law, Sue Hudkins and husband Virgil, and Karen Deeds and husband Gene, all of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mary in death are her parents and husband Jim on January 1, 2020.

 A celebration of the life of Mary Martha Fisher will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 27, 2026 in the Faith Outreach Center, 1125 East 9th St., Rochester with Pastor Terry Baldwin officiating.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Thursday, March 26, 2026 and one hour prior to the service in the church.   

Interment will be in the Akron Cemetery.    Memorials may be made to the National Society of Multiple[JG1]  Sclerosis, The Greater Illinois – Indiana Chapter, 525 W. Monroe St., #1510, Chicago, IL 60661 or the  Faith Outreach Center, 1125 E. 9th St., Rochester, IN 46975.
