NEW CARLISLE-Susan D. Schmeltz, 70, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Sue was born on September 26, 1956, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Charles and Rose (Palfi) Minter. She graduated from John Glenn High School with the Class of 1975. On September 27, 1980, she married Dale, in LaPaz, Indiana, beginning a life together filled with family, laughter, and cherished memories.

Laid-back, easygoing, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, Sue had a way of enjoying life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening, playing cards, quilting, traveling, and hiking. She especially enjoyed taking in the scenic beauty of creeks, waterways, and waterfalls. Wherever her travels took her, amusement parks, state parks, and museums were always must-see destinations.

Above all, family was the most important part of Sue’s life. She treasured the time she spent with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren, whom she delighted in spoiling and making memories with. Her love, laughter, and easygoing spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Dale; her children, Shelly (Jonathan) Barra, Adam (Jamie) Schmeltz, and Angela Carlson; her grandchildren, Emma and Avery Carlson, Paxton and Aurelia Barra, and Izzy Smith; and her siblings, Sally Petro, David Minter, and Beverly Fraine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rose Minter, and her brothers, Chucky Minter and Bob Meyers.

Sue will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her sense of humor, her love of adventure, and, most of all, the special place she held in the hearts of her family.
