Joy Byers 86, of Rochester

Joy Byers 86, of Rochester, passed away at 5:14 A.M. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

She was born on August 28, 1938 in Logansport, Indiana, the daughter of George T. and Helen N. (Sloop) Byers.

Joy had been a homemaker while her daughters were young and had also worked as a secretary for Eastern Pulaski Middle School in Winamac, Indiana, and then an Administrative Assistant for the Biology Department at Purdue University. She also worked for the Rochester Christian Church before she retired at the age of 70. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church. In her leisure time, she was an avid gardener, proud of the various flowers she grew. She also had a deep love for her dachshund, Carly, who was her constant companion and brought her great joy.

Survivors include her daughter, Twyla (Bill) Rader, Danville, Indiana, grandson, Wil (Madison) Beaty, Coatesville, Indiana, brothers, Dean Byers, Plymouth, Indiana, Dale (Jeannie) Byers, Logansport, Indiana, Jay (Martine) Byers, Logansport, Indiana, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Naomi Starr Hoffman, and sister-in-law, Clarisse Byers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 1, 2025 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 1, 2025 at the funeral home. Private burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport, Indiana.
