
Jon Lee Bohannon, 86, resident of Bremen, passed away on October 7, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital. Born September 16, 1939, in Michigan City, Jon was the only child of the late Everett and Dorotha Bohannon.
Raised in Three Oaks, MI, after graduating high school, Jon went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Adrian College and his master’s from Siena Heights University, Adrian, MI. During Jon’s 30-year teaching career, he taught high school mathematics, chemistry, and physics in various Michigan high schools from Flint to Buchanan, MI until his retirement in 1987. He was a highly successful high school basketball coach who helped build winning teams and gained much respect from his students for his encouragement and trust in their abilities. He retired from coaching in 1977, after taking his Buchanan team to the Michigan Final Four.
Jon and his wife, Sharon (née Beron), were married December 30, 1989, blending their families. He leaves behind his devoted wife, their four children: Jesse Bohannon and Jennifer Bohannon-Lopez (Arturo), Bremen; Jay Johnson (Diana), Ann Arbor, and Aaron Johnson (Krysten), South Bend. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Dominic (Gabriella), Evan, and Alyssia Lopez; Alexandra and Zachary Johnson, Noah and Naomi Cook, Avi, Theada, Hazel and Eloise Johnson, as well as one great-granddaughter, Camila Lopez, and another on the way.
The family extends grateful thanks to the doctors and nurses at Elkhart General Hospital for their compassionate and understanding care.
Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, is assisting the family. In accordance with Jon’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. A memorial gathering may be arranged later. Gifts in his name may be given to Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, MI or Lakeside Baptist Church, Lakeville, IN.
