Janet G. Button, 82, of Winamac

Janet G. Button, 82, of Winamac, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.

She was born on September 5, 1943 in Royalton, KY to the late Woodrow and Virgie (Hopkins) Salyer, Sr. The Salyer family moved from Kentucky to Indiana when her dad got a job at the Ford Motor Co. She was eventually introduced to her future husband by Thelma and Harold Hopkins. On October 26, 1963, Janet married Jerry Lee Button in Knox, IN. Janet and Jerry raised three sons and enjoyed life to the fullest. They made many memories camping with the boys over the years – a tradition that eventually included the grandchildren. And when camping had run its course; Janet and Jerry began taking the grandchildren to a condo in Alabama where even more fond memories were made.

For many years, Janet worked at Allis Chalmers in LaPorte. Later in life, Janet attended Ancilla College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University in Kokomo, IN. She retired from the State of Indiana Department of Child Services after a meaningful career as a public assistance case worker.

Janet enjoyed cooking and baking as well as caring for her rose garden. She was also fond of watching the daily Soap Operas. More than anything, Janet loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
