
Herbert Walter Hunt, 84, of Denver, Indiana, passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at his residence.
Born November 14, 1940, in Winamac, Indiana, he was the son of Herbert Wayne and Hazel Lucille (Yergin) Hunt. On May 23, 1960, in Buffalo, Indiana, he was married to Carolyn Sue Alkire, and she survives.
Herb was a 1958 graduate of Buffalo High School and went on to attend barber school in Indianapolis. After working for seventeen years as a barber, he became co-owner and operator of Tolly Hunt Bulldozing and later Tolley-Hunt Landfill. Herb was a longtime member of the Denver Fire Department, Moose Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Shriner’s Lodge. He had attended Pleasant Hill Church in rural Macy. He loved fishing in Minnesota, golfing, softball, and more than anything, watching his family participate in sporting events. For many years, he had a stellar record coaching the Denver Sox in the Denver Youth Leage.
Survivors include his four children; Clifford Jay (Nancy) Hunt, Seminole, FL; Hayley Lynn (Kevin) Hostetler, Denver; Robin Wayne (Kim) Hunt, New Haven, IN; and Herbert Alan Hunt, Denver; nine grandchildren, Austin (Emily) Hunt, Zaccary (Marisa) Hostetler, Kevin (Ariel) Hostetler, Payton (Blake) Johnson, Chase Hunt, Tatym Hunt (Eli Swank), Shyloe Hunt, Aricyn Hunt, and Cub Hunt; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Dwayne Hunt, Buffalo; and his canine companion, Cuddles II.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A time of visitation will be from 4-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana.
