Elmer Charles Hoover, 82, of Star City, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
He was born on May 26, 1943 in Winamac to the late Charles and Hazel (Hines) Hoover. Elmer graduated from Star City High School in 1961. He married Sharron Kaply on August 29, 1965 in Winamac. In December of 1965, he was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam with Company A., 704th Maintenance Battalion, 4th Infantry Division. He received two commendation letters from his superiors and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and two Army Overseas Service Bars.
Elmer was a lifelong farmer who truly enjoyed working outdoors. He was well-known for his strong work ethic. Over the years, he also held laborer jobs at Brian’s in Monticello, Plymouth Tube in Winamac, and Whallon’s in Royal Center. In the early 1980’s, Elmer and Sharron began a small carpet cleaning business. They served customers for over 30 years and touched many people’s lives along the way. When he wasn’t working, Elmer enjoyed hunting and spending time with his animals.
Elmer was a devoted Jehovah Witness and attended Kingdom Hall in Winamac. He faithfully ministered to the community for nearly fifty years. Elmer was a true man of God. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother, and uncle who will be dearly missed.

Cremation will take place at Frain Crematory in Winamac.
The family will host a Memorial Service at 11 AM EST Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Kingdom Hall in Winamac, IN with Brother Lenon Harris officiating.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall.
