Edith Ann "Edie" Popplewell, 76, of Shelbyville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
Born February 8, 1949 in Vanceburg, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Wilford and Cora (Applegate) Hackworth. She married Londo Popplewell on May 12, 1973, and he preceded her in 2009. Survivors include a daughter Kim Thurston of Flat Rock; 2 sisters- Bessie Dyer of Shelbyville, Geneva Thoroughman of Cincinnati; 2 brothers- Charles Hackworth and Walton Hackworth (Becky), both of Shelbyville; 3 grandchildren- Kassie Perreault (Tyler), Josh Thurston, and Jayden Thurston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, brothers Douglas and Howard Hackworth, and sister Mildred Grizzell.
Mrs. Popplewell had lived in this area for most of her lifetime, and graduated from high school in Vanceburg. She had been a factory worker at Randall Textron in Morristown for several years, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield, and Hope's Point Baptist Church locally. Edie enjoyed Gospel music, her church, and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Greg Albert officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday morning, November 24th, from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
