Yecnuar Hernandez-Zelaya leads Plymouth Police on pursuit

A vehicle pursuit on Sunday, October 12th, at approximately 4:15 in the morning ended with a Plymouth teen being arrested on multiple charges.  

Corporal Schieber with the Plymouth Police Department attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Oak Drive traveling south from Harrison Street.  The vehicle refused to stop, accelerating and disregarding the red traffic light at Jefferson Street. 

The pursuit continued as the vehicle entered the bus parking area of Washington Discover Academy and proceeded to drive through the grass towards LaPorte Street.  The driver drove through someone's yard before continuing east on LaPorte Street, south on Cromer, and back east on Lake Avenue.  The vehicle turned south on Sixth Street and east through an alley before going north on Fifth Street.  The vehicle and the occupants parked and ran to the front porch of 901 East Lake Avenue. 

During the investigation, it was determined that Yecnuar Hernandez-Zelaya, 18, of Plymouth, was the driver. Two juvenile passengers were ultimately released to their guardians.  Hernandez-Zelaya was taken into custody and lodged in the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief to school property, aggressive driving, reckless driving, and operating without license. 

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
