Winamac Police report no threat to the community from a man handing out food and candy to children.
Police responded Wednesday afternoon to the town park after a call that stated it looked like a man was trying to lure children to his vehicle.
Officers spoke with the man who provided his driver’s license and workplace ID. The man works for a food and vending dispenser company and was on his lunch break as he was servicing machines in the area. Police say the man’s vehicle contained boxes and cases of food and beverages used to stock vending machines.
The man told officers he hands out candy to children to be nice.
The officers did not believe there was any malicious intent. After counseling the man, he departed the area.
