Beginning Monday, May 5, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office will be collecting monetary donations for its 2025 Ride the Lightning fundraising drive, with proceeds being donated to Fulton County Shop with a Cop.
As pictured above, those who have selflessly volunteered to potentially have up to 1,000 volts of electric current delivered to them are Fulton County Sheriff Travis Heishman, Rochester High School Principal Oscar Haughs, Shepherd's Chevrolet GMC's Chris Troutner, Fulton Superior Court Judge Greg Heller, Craig Welding's Chris Peterson, Woodlawn Hospital Emergency Department Director Troy Phillipy, Rochester Police Department Officer Brady Briggs and Wilson Fertilizer & Grain's Ren Zent.
The man with the least amount donated on their behalf will “Ride the Lightning” at a staff luncheon on Thursday, May 15, at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The fundraising drive and luncheon also coincide with Corrections Appreciation Week and Law Enforcement Week.
Donations will be accepted at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police Department and Rochester Glass. One can also donate directly to any of the volunteers to keep them off the chopping block. They don’t have to be in first place, but they definitely don’t want to be last. Donations must be received by 4 p.m. May 14.
More than $1,500 was raised for the first-ever "Ride the Lightning" challenge last year. Thanks to a last minute donation war, there were two "lucky winners," Animal Control Officer Samantha Sorak and Deputy Bethany Johnson.
