Vasquez-Reyes arrested by city police for possession of cocaine

A scooter driver who disregarded two stop signs is in the Marshall County Jail for possession of cocaine and a warrant.

Officer Lovely with the Plymouth Police Department was patrolling the area of Liberty and Jefferson Streets just before 2 a.m. Saturday, October 18^th, and observed a scooter disregarding two stop signs and failing to use a turn signal.

At the traffic stop, the driver was identified as Ely Vasquez-Reyes, 35, Clark Street in Plymouth. The officer learned that Vasques-Reyes had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear and while conducting an inventory of the vehicle discovered a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.

Vasquez-Reyes was transported to the Marshall County Jail where he was lodged for his failure to appear arrest warrant and new charge of possession of cocaine as a level 6 felony.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
