The Lawrence County Unit #20 School Board passed an approximate $16.6 million-dollar fiscal year budget Wednesday, September 23rd, containing a $650,000 surplus.
Superintendent Doug Daugherty told GIANT-FM WAKO News that the district is on sound financial footing to start the year, but things could change with unexpected expenses and other situations that come up during the school term. That could cause some adjustments throughout the year, but so far, so good.
The board did approve the 2026-27 Parkside Elementary School calendar. It was delayed after the school was shut down at the beginning of the new school year due to remediation work and cleanup of mold discovered inside the building.
The Lawrenceville High School (LHS) graduation date was officially set for Sunday, May 23rd, 2027, in the LHS Gymnasium. The date was selected early to allow for planning by parents and relatives who want to attend.
