Two people were arrested Friday night after a standard traffic stop on U.S. 31 led to a confrontation involving a second vehicle and the alleged misuse of emergency communication systems.
On Friday, January 23, at 9:27 p.m., a Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near U.S. 31 and 14th Road for an equipment violation. During the investigation, a second vehicle reportedly arrived at the scene and began to interfere with the officer's work.
Following the encounter, police arrested 33-year-old Shannon Brown and 24-year-old Shaunyae Monique Sowell, both of Indianapolis.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Brown was taken into custody and charged with operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license and misuse of emergency telecommunication systems.

Sowell, the driver of the second vehicle, was also arrested and faces multiple charges, including refusal to identify, resisting law enforcement, and misuse of emergency telecommunication systems.

Both individuals were transported and booked into the Marshall County Jail. Sowell was held on a $500 cash bond, and Brown on a $750 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
