A motorist was fortunate an accident with a train in Putnam County wasn't deadly.
According to Putnam County Sheriff Deputy Scott Ducker, Deputy Tyler Lohr investigated a motor vehicle versus train accident shortly before 10 p.m. on Aug. 14.
The crash occurred on County Road 150 North about 200 yards east of County Road 550 East near Fillmore. Law enforcement officials said a westbound Jeep Cherokee was run off the road by another vehicle, heading in the opposite direction.
"The driver stated that the oncoming vehicle had crossed the centerline, forcing her Jeep off the road. The Jeep then launched off the southside of the road into the gravel area, next to the train tracks. The jeep then became stuck, as it sunk into the gravel," Ducker told The Putnam County Post.
The driver of the Jeep immediately called 911, however, a CSX train was traveling towards the stuck jeep and could not be stopped in time, according to Ducker.
"The train impacted the jeep causing extensive damage. Fortunately, the driver was away from the vehicle during the impact and was not injured," Ducker said.
