Traffic stop nets arrest in Parke County

A woman pretending to be her daughter was not enough to evade Parke County Sheriff deputies during a recent traffic stop.

According to Parke County Sheriff Jason Frazier, deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. Highway 36 and Strawberry Road in Montezuma after observing a vehicle speeding.

During the stop, deputies noticed several indicators of possible criminal activity, and suspicions were confirmed when K9 Thor gave a positive alert on the vehicle.

Deputies then searched the vehicle, locating marijuana and placing the female occupant into custody.

However, when deputies tried to identify the suspect, she provided a false name and deputies learned the name provided was that of her 30-year-old daughter. Police finally were able to learn the suspect was Nancy Jordan, 50, of Terre Haute, who was wanted on an active felony warrant out of Vigo County for Battery on Law Enforcement. She was arrested and charged with a Class A misdemeanor of possession of marijuana and a Class A misdemeanor of false informing.
