The Sumner City Council has put off a vote on the Christy Avenue paving project while additional discussions continue with the county.

They moved to table an intergovernmental agreement between the two until at least December, upon the recommendation of City Administrator Travis Trainer.

Trainer informed GIANT-FM News that the reason for the delay is to continue to talk with county highway engineer Aaron Mefford and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on allocating the over $400,000 awarded for the project to Lawrence County. Christy Avenue is technically a county road and under their jurisdiction. He added that once the language is changed in the proposed agreement, it will return to the council for a vote in December.

It is anticipated that if all goes well, the project will be ready for bid in the spring of 2026.
