County Police find suspected cocaine and marijuana during a traffic stop.
On Tuesday, December 24th, at approximately 1:15 in the morning, Deputy Ash with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department conducted a traffic stop on a black 2010 Lexus at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Oak Road.
During the investigation, a probable cause search of the vehicle was completed and officers located suspected cocaine as well as marijuana.
The driver, 26-year-old Leonard Lara Jr. of South Bend, was taken into custody, transported to the Marshall County Jail, and booked in for possession of cocaine. He was held on a $1,500 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
