Shelby County Public Library will host Edgar Award-winning novelist Mindy McGinnis as she discusses her newest book, Under This Red Rock.
Released March 19, the young adult novel is a powerful psychological thriller that explores the dark side of humanity – murder, grief, and mental illness.
“I always get excited when Mindy comes out with a new book because I never know what I’m getting into. I absolutely love how no matter what book I pick up of hers I know I’m going to get great, fleshed out characters, vivid, dark storytelling, and come away feeling spent,” said Library Director Brandy Graves.
Held at the main building, 57 W. Broadway St., the program is free to attend and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase; McGinnis plans to sign them after the discussion. Light refreshments also will be offered, with donations accepted.
According to her website, McGinnis is an Ohio native and ninth-generation farmer; consequently, much of her writing reflects small-town living and aspects of rural poverty. She is the author of multiple novels and short stories that span many genres, from historical to fantasy, contemporary to gothic thriller. She is also a blogger and podcaster and has been featured on NPR and PBS.
Shelby County Public Library offers a wide array of programs for adults, teens, and children: story times, how-to programs, entertainment events, book discussions, and author visits, such as this one. On Thursday, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
